History

Established in 1988, the Nifty Thrifty store was developed by the Mason County Senior Activities Association (MCSAA) to provide an on-going revenue source so the Mason County Senior Activities Center could be self-funding. Hattie and John Luhm championed the idea with the help of MCSAA Board President Lou Redman and Center Director Marge Emsley-Brown.

Nifty Thrifty remains the major funding source of the Center to this day. The store is in the same building as in 1988, but in a much larger space.

Donations

Quality donations are needed and gladly accepted during store open hours only or a free pick-up can be arranged. Please do not drop off donations any other times because they cannot be properly processed and protected from the weather.

We can only sell the quality items that are donated to us, so your support is important. All the funds stay local and are used to operate the Mason County Senior Activities Center.

Staff and Volunteers

The store has a staff of four led by Store Manager Patti Vernie. Supporting the staff are many valued volunteers. Additional volunteers are needed and appreciated, but they must pass a WSP background check and organization screening process.
